What do you think of when you hear quick weight loss?  How quick is quick?  According to Weight Watchers, two pounds per week is a healthy and sustainable rate at which to lose weight.  Yes, you can lose weight more quickly than that short-term, but it's likely that you won't be able to keep up that pace for more than a few weeks.

Two pounds per week is really not bad, actually.  If you think about it, with 52 weeks in a year, you'd lose over 100 pounds in a single year just by dropping two pounds per week.  When you think of it that way, the safe and sustainable rate sounds much more appealing.

Losing More than Two Pounds per Week

Of course, if that really isn't fast enough, you can choose a quick weight loss plan that will help you lose weight faster. It is still important to go about it wisely though. After all, you could quit eating for two weeks and probably lose a ton of weight, but that doesn't mean it's safe to do so. Losing weight too quickly can have negative effects on your health, so it's best to plan your diet under a doctor's supervision if you are serious about losing weight quickly. Your doctor can monitor your heart and other vitals to make sure your diet isn't having a detrimental effect on your overall health and well-being.

Quick Weight Loss Diets

The lemonade diet is one of the diets for quick weight loss that people use to try to lose weight fast. This is actually a form of body cleansing. However, many people have used it to lose weight. Basically, you mix up a drink made from fresh squeezed lemons, water, honey and cayenne pepper and drink this several times per day while avoiding solid foods for up to two weeks. It is a no-brainer that you will lose weight if you stop eating for two weeks, but it is anyone's guess how safe this procedure is. There may not be a faster way to lose weight, but there are certainly safer methods.

A low-carb diet such as Atkins or South Beach is a safer type of quick weight loss program, and you will often achieve results faster than the slow and steady two pounds per week. If you decide to go with one of these diets, it is a good idea to buy the associated book to make sure you get all of the details right. It also can't hurt to get your doctor's opinion on the diet.

After Your Quick Weight Loss Diet

No matter what diet you choose, when it is over you will find yourself gaining the weight back again just as quickly if you go back to your old habits.  It is best to choose a plan that you can stick to long-term so that the results will last a lifetime.
